Don't Tell Ryan
(Lisa Dery, Phil Saatchi, Alex Wingham, Chris Haigh, Annie Moss)
In the folk-pop song “Don’t tell Ryan”, the singer loves her best friend “Ryan”. She decides not to reveal this to him, as she knows it will complicate and change the dynamic of their relationship. She settles for his friendship, as she knows that this is the only way their relationship will endure.
Don’t tell Ryan (Lyrics)
Ryan, he’s so sweet
He always smiles
And when you’re sad
He’ll sit with you for a while
He’ll make you tea
And say laugh at me
Make a funny face
Until he sees you smile
You see, I’ve know Ryan since the seventh grade
And he’s still the same, no he hasn’t changed
A child at thirty-three
Darling Ryan…my chum Ryan
With his mismatched socks
And his hair too short
He looks like a child
A child you’d wanna hold
He lives trouble-free
In his naïveté
No diplomacy
He speaks honestly
You see Ryan suffers from simplicity
An endearing form of sincerity
Truthful as one can be
So I trust Ryan…my friend Ryan
He let’s me speak
Listens patiently
Gives no advice
Just let’s me be me
Ryan works at the corner store
Lives with his Mom, will forever more
But in him I see
Something makes me happy
You see my husband left me for my best friend Sue
Pain so strong, I could barely move
Alone at thirty-two
But then came Ryan … gentle Ryan
But don’t tell Ryan… that I love Ryan
