Cookies and Milk
(Lisa Dery, Phil Saatchi, Alex Wingham, Chris Haigh, Clare Mee)
Finding out the truth about Santa Claus was heartbreaking to me as a child. Like so many other North American children, I would put out cookies and milk for old St-Nicholas on Christmas Eve. The song “Cookies and milk” is the story about one stubborn little girl’s decision to continue to believe in Santa Claus, despite the fact that her parents have told her the truth.
Cookies and Milk (Lyrics)
Tucked warm in bed
I can hear you
I should be asleep
So I don’t move
Outside my door
I hear footsteps
My heart skips a beat
Maybe this time we’ll meet
You tiptoe around and you try to be quiet
But your bag’s so heavy that you have to slide it
I’ve left cookies and milk for you
You sure must be tired
Cookies and milk
While you warm by the fire
Did you read my last letter on why the snow falls
‘n that I like you
Sleep finely took
‘til I woke in the morning
I rush down to find
You’ve left something behind
Next to the crumbs
And an empty glass
Is a present for me
And it’s perfectly wrapped
Inside the box
I can only admire
A pink velvet dress
the one I desired
I’d left cookies and milk for you
In case you were tired
Cookies and milk
While you warmed by the fire
We still have not met
it was not meant to be
But I thank you
There is a note I almost did not see
To Lisa with love
What could it be
It says: darling please read this
We think that it’s time
You know the truth
You are almost nine
They try to convince me but I still believe
‘cause I like to
